Chauncey Jerome Steeple #1

In catalogs this model is referred to as the “Sharp Gothic.”  The tablet is stylistically similar to ones made by William Fenn, but it does not match any known stencils.

Unclassified 30-hr Jerome movement (front) with brass springs and maker’s stamp, “CHAUNCEY JEROME/NEW HAVEN, CONN./USA”.  The brass springs are attached to the seatboard with a bent staple.

CJ steeple-4

30-hr spring-driven movement (back).  Note how the back plate of the movement rests in a slot in the seatboard that keeps the movement away from the backboard of the case.
