Jerome, Darrow & Co. Bronzed Looking-Glass Clock

111114-1

Although this clock has experienced horrific “restoration,” I believe it represents one of the earliest bronzed looking-glass clocks made.  In his autobiography, Jerome claimed that he “invented” the bronzed looking-glass clock in 1825.  Chris Bailey, in From Rags to Riches to Rags:  The Story of Chauncey Jerome, believed that Jerome was mistaken and placed the origin of this clock style in 1827.  However, the firm of Jerome, Darrow & Co. was dissolved in October 1826.  Though missing its original splat, I believe the splat would have been a stenciled splat.  Among the problems with this clock are the amateurish corner block paint jobs, a replaced dial, replaced splat, tri-partite lower glass, and replaced hands.
