I purchased this clock purely for the stenciling on the corner blocks, which is similar to the design on Jeromes & Darrow clocks. George Mitchell was not a clock maker. Rather, he was a merchant who purchased clocks from various makers for resale.
Although the label states “Manufactured and Sold” by Mitchell, only the sold portion is true. The clock was likely made by Chauncey Boardman expressly for Mitchell.
Typical “groaner” movement, likely made by Chauncey Boardman.
Detail of corner block, showing mirror image comma stencil pattern, which is similar to that found on Jeromes & Darrow clocks.
