Chauncey Jerome Union Clock

This is one of many variations of the Union model and likely dates to the early 1850s. Along with plain wood (un-ornamented) models, the 1852 Jerome catalog depicts two versions described as “Pearl Inlaid”: an 8-day striking version and a 30-hour lever timepiece. The 8-day pearl inlaid version was not retained in the 1853 catalog. I do not believe the hands are original.

Front view of the 8-day, fusee, time & strike movement, with the maker’s stamp stating, “C. JEROME/NEW HAVEN CONN/USA”. As noted elsewhere on my website, the movement may have been made by A.S. Platt & Co. for Jerome. It originally had Geneva stops, which have been lost.

Rear view of the movement.

Close-up of the maker’s stamp.
