This Jerome steeple probably dates to the late 1840s to early 1850s. There are few clues that permit definitive dating during this period. Everything appears to be original to this clock. Apologies for the white card showing through the tablet.
Very well-preserved blue label identifying the many products of Chauncey Jerome.
Front view of the type 1.13, 8-day, spring-driven movement, with maker’s stamp stating, “CHAUNCEY JEROME/NEW HAVEN, CONN/USA”. Tentative dating for this clock is based on the use of a screw to attach the verge arm, which I believe was replaced by a rivet around 1851, when the New Haven Clock Co. started making movements for Jerome. Note the use of wires as a cage for the mainsprings. The type 1.13 is distinguished from the type 1.141 by the use of all ribbed gears for the former and a mix of ribbed and smooth gears for the latter.
