This clock was probably made in 1857 when Jerome worked for Waterbury and was receiving partial payment in clocks. When he left suddenly with clocks in the pipeline, it’s likely that Waterbury overpasted their label on Jerome’s.
Waterbury label overpasted on what I believe to be a Chauncey Jerome label. There is enough of the under label visible at the bottom to suggest it is a typical late Jerome label.

This design patent (No. 959, dated Oct. 20, 1857) by Samuel Bryan Jerome appears to be the model for the Waterbury Square Rose. SB Jerome was one of Chauncey Jerome’s sons. Witnesses to his patent were Frances C Jerome (Samuel’s wife, maiden name Colt) and Sara A Colt, who I assume was related to Frances (sister, perhaps?). Interestingly enough, I believe this patent, which was Samuel’s first, was the only one witnessed by family.
