This clock was assembled in Hamburg, SC (present-day North Augusta) around 1838 by a local front company for Chauncey Jerome’s clocks made in Bristol, CT. Jerome was attempting to circumvent “import” duties placed on clocks from the North that were flooding the South. The factory was nothing more than an assembly plant. Noble Jerome’s patent application for a 30-hr brass movement was submitted from Hamburg.

This clock has been discussed in numerous Bulletin articles:  NAWCC Bull. 221, Part II (Dec 1982, p. 713; NAWCC Bull. 380 (June 2009), p. 338; and NAWCC Bull. 398 (Jul/Aug 2012), p. 432.
