Isaac O. Hinsdale Ogee

Hinsdale-1

On the label, Hinsdale claims to be the agent for Chauncey Jerome.  By the late 1830s Jerome had switched production over to brass movements.  So it’s unlikely this clock came out of Jerome’s shop.  However, he may have purchased wooden works clocks from others for resale through Hinsdale, as a way of satisfying some customers who didn’t want to buy new-fangled brass clocks.  In the 1841-42 New York City directory, Jerome listed the 204 Broadway address in an advertisement.  This clock gets a brief mention in NAWCC Bull. 342 (Feb. 2003), pg. 102-103.
